Perspectives of Feminist Theology in Biblical Studies: Hagar
Kajová, Katarína ; Prudký, Martin (advisor) ; Rückl, Jan (referee)
Kajová, Katarína Abstract This work offers a probe into the exegetical research of selected feminist biblical studies, which have been developing in recent decades as a part of various forms of the feminist movement. On the example of a specific text, the work shows that different contexts can make the reader, the interpreter, and thus the interpretation, more sensitive to certain social phenomena, which are to be found both in the text and in their own world. The chosen biblical text is the story of Hagar from Gen 16, 1-16 and Gen 21, 9-21, whose exegesis is given by selected feminist biblical scholars Phyllis Trible and Dora Rudo Mbuwayesango. Both authors come from different backgrounds, and the work shows how these environments are reflected in their understanding of feminism and in their own exegetical work. Just as the feminist movement has various forms and submovements, so do the feminist biblical studies. Their choice of emphasis and sensitivity to specific topics depends on their own context and environment.

Macháčková, Anna ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis presents a qualitative gender analysis of a Christian girls' magazine "IN! - dívčí svět" and explores how femininity is constructed in the magazine and how the results of the analysis can be interpreted using feminist theology. An important starting point of the thesis is the belief in the existence of asymmetric power relations. The study of the literary-media text, thus, allows showing whether the power relations are strengthened or subverted through it. The main analytical category of this thesis is gender. In the theoretical-methodological part, the basic concepts and methods used during the analysis are presented. In the analytical part, the method of resistant reading and critical discourse analysis is used. The analytical part consists of fifteen selected texts. Finally, the collected data are summarised.

Ivaschiv, Nicolai ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
The bachelor's thesis "The benefits and limits of democratization of mysticism of Dorothee Sölle" seeks to present the concept of democratization of mysticism of protestant theologian Dorothee Sölle and to suggest the benefits and limits of that theological concept. To achive this aim I decide to present her theological basics from the begining of hers work untill the end of her life. I show on her theological development which includes periods of theology of God's death, liberation theology and feminist theology a assumptions for the concept of democratization of mysticism, which is a part of her late book Mysticism and resistance. The book is a ideological basis for the main part of my thesis, which deals with topic of mysticism and civic activism. I will reflect on the concept of democratization in relation to political acting and mysticism. Mysticism acording to Sölle is open to everyone and it is not privilege of spiritual elites in any sense. At the end of the thesis I summarize a possible benefits and limits of this original theological concept.
Manifests of antifeminism in contemporary teaching of the Roman Catholic Church
Langhammerová, Gabriela ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
The diploma thesis Antifeminism in Contemporary Teaching of the Roman Catholic Church examines the mechanisms which shape the identity of women in Roman Catholic teachings. This is the starting point for the subsequent constitution of gender order, i.e. the way the relationship between man and woman is constructed, and in which woman is subordinated to man. To support the subordinate position of women, Roman Catholic theology implemented theory of complementarity into its teachings. This inequality provides an important underpinning of gender-based violence. Feminist movement and feminist theology, such as that of Mary Daly brought new analytical tools in the 1960s and 1970s to understand the functioning of the social mechanisms that lead to women's subordination. These tools are, in particular, feminist critique and perspective, critique of power relations and of androcentrism, and a specifically feminist understanding of woman's identity. The Istanbul Convention, with its perspective that rejects inequality, promotes criticism of power relations and describes violence against women as gender-based violence, is conceptually in accordance with the methods and goals of the feminist movement as well as with democratic principles. In particular, it agrees with them on the issue of gender-based...

Skladanová, Nikola ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Salamon, Janusz (referee)
The main objective of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce and describe the topic of religious feminism and feminist theology within Christianity and Islam based on two chosen works, In Memory of Her by E. S. Fiorenza and Qur'an and Woman by A. Wadud. In the work I outline the main themes, topics and aims of these feminisms as well as describe their history and development. This thesis examines and analyses the role and status of women within the patriarchal structures of Christianity and Islam, the two biggest world monotheistic religions. Based on my analysis of the two chosen works I will indentify how the key points and main issues of religious feminisms are reflected in the feminist theologies that are introduced by the two authors in their books. The result is a case study of these books which goal is to showcase the specific application of the perspectives, objectives and worldview of religious feminism through the optics of E. S. Fiorenza and A. Wadud. The outcome of this thesis is a closer look and an introduction to the Czech/Slovak audience with the issues, stances and aims of religious feminism and feminist theology in the structures of Christianity and Islam. This is achieved with the help of analysis of the feminist theologies in the chosen feminist works with which the Czech/Slovak...

The feminine mode of being concept in the work by Ann Belford Ulanov
Tichá, Soňa ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
The thesis constitutes the gender analysis of the Ann Belford Ulanov's work, particularly the qualitative content analysis of publications which are explicitly focused on gender problems. Ulanov as the Jungian psychologist and Protestant theologian deals with the concept of the "feminine mode of being" (feminine principle) which perceives as one of the key elements of human soul, and the manner by which it is possible to be connected with the world and god. Outcomes of the thesis are constructivist, anchored in critical theory paradigm. From this point of view, the chapters of the theoretical part are addressed. These chapters deal with issues linked to the feminist theology and Jungian psychology. The aim of the research part is to analyse concept of the "feminine mode of being" and its implications for the construction of gender concerning the divinity and humanity. Ulanov perceives the "feminine mode of being" within the framework of symbolic approach as the part of the masculine-feminine polarity. While she does not link this principle only to women, she perceives it essentialisticly. For instance, she strongly associates "the feminine" with biological maternity. It is possible to classify many motives and archetypes which Ulanov develops as non- stereotypical and subversive. However, her...
Self-devotion women motive showed in the "Breaking the waves" script
Jelínková, Jarmila ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
Jarmila Jelínková - Self-devotion women motive showed on the "Breaking the waves" scenerply Abstract The article analyzes the character of Bess in the script of Lars von Trier and Vivian Nielsen's drama Breaking the Waves. The portrayal of Bess' behavior, life, and relationships to her husband, the church and God are interpreted from the perspective of feminist theology as introduced by Isabel Carter Heyward. The main message of the play is the parallel to Jesus' sacrifice of pure altruism leading towards physical self-destruction; other possible interpretations offered in the article are the images of self-sacrifice as a type of mystical obsession or as a type of internalized manipulation conveyed by means of discursive power. Keywords: faith in God, self-sacrifice, power, freedom, feminist theology, Lars vor Trier, Vivian Nielsen.
